Penn-co Construction is a leading construction company currently hiring a General Accountant to join our team in Steinbach, MB. The General Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Department to support timely and accurate financial results. The ideal candidate brings solid accounting knowledge, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a high level of attention to detail to their work. Responsibilities

  • Support a wide range of accounting activities, including the accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end processes
  • Ensure operational activities are properly recorded and reflected in the general ledger
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Complete balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations and related analysis
  • Assist with tax filings and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and support cash flow tracking and management
  • Record and reconcile customer payments to maintain accurate financial reporting
  • Review expenses to confirm approvals, accuracy, and correct tax treatment
  • Perform full-cycle accounting processes for a related corporation
  • Research, troubleshoot, and resolve general ledger issues as they arise
  • Provide professional, responsive service to internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Identify, recommend, and support process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Accounting, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered
  • Progress toward a CPA designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of ASPE principles and practices; tax-related experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multitask, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating as part of a team
