The Sagkeeng First Nation Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project consists of expansion of the South Shore WTP facility including upgrades to existing equipment, converting the North Shore WTP to a pumping station, upgrading both buildings and grounds, and swabbing supply lines between buildings (including lines that cross under the Winnipeg River). Penn-co Construction is making use of the local forces to assist in the construction of the facilities. We are hiring and training to work on various disciplines in the construction process. The expansion and upgrade of the Sagkeeng WTP is underway to meet the demands of residents on both North and South shores of the Winnipeg River. The South Shore works include a new in-ground concrete reservoir, a new pre-engineered steel building with concrete block walls, a new treatment skid complete with new UV and chlorination equipment, new distribution, fire and truck fill pumping station, a new genset, new controls (SCADA), abandoning and removing existing equipment, landscaping and yardworks. The North Shore works include conversion of the existing WTP to a pumping station, decommissioning water treatment equipment and removal from building, upgrading existing pumps and equipment, converting existing raw water supply pipes to treated water supply pipes, a new genset, upgrading the truck fill, and new controls (SCADA). There are many challenges we will encounter in this project such as cold weather construction and a tight timeline to complete the project, but the greatest challenge will be to schedule the construction sequence so we can maintain water services to the residents of the Sagkeeng First Nation at all times.
