Penn-co Construction has been awarded construction of a new 28,000 ft2 LEED Silver Certified Sewage Treatment Plant to service the City of Dryden, ON. The building, the grounds, all associated works and all construction procedures will utilize LEED principles for energy efficiency and green design. This will be the first LEED Silver Certified Sewage Treatment Plant in North America. The project was tendered in two phases. Phase one, also awarded to Penn-co Construction, consisted of the excavation for the footprint of the plant itself, the pouring of the concrete base slab and some related shoring and excavation. Phase two consists of the Sewage Treatment Plant which will also house some office space, a lift station, a gate chamber, all associated works, a parking lot, landscaping and some miscellaneous demolition. Two rivers border the West and North sides of the property creating some ground stabilization challenges. Construction of the treatment plant within the existing operational treatment plant site offers some coordination challenges as well.
